The 2013 BIA Melbourne Boat Show has “gone overboard” with new exhibits and interactive features to make it the most exciting show yet. Show-goers will find every type of boat from budget tinnies to top-end cruisers, plus ski and wake boats, every type of engine and drive system, and all the lifestyle accessories that make recreational boating such a treat.
For experienced and novice boaties alike, the show features the latest in boats, innovation and accessories. The Boating Industry Association of Victoria has filled its massive under-cover space at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre with the latest and greatest in recreational boating products, information and safety advice.
If you are a fisherman or water sports enthusiast you’ll find it all at the 2013 BIA Melbourne Boat Show. As ever, the whole family is catered for at this year’s show including the kids who’ll be kept enetertained at the ever popular Flathead Fred’s Fun Fishin’ Show.
The variety of ski and wake boats at the show has expanded enormously in the past decade, and this year there are plenty of top manufacturers and dealers who can provide valuable decision making information for buyers. Fishing and offshore boats are again exhibited alongside cruising powerboats, with several new and updated models making their debut. Look out for kayaks, sailboats and RIBs, and try out the world-class navigational simulators. The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association once again provides its boat licence course to give new boaters the training they need to earn their licence. Transport Safety Victoria and Parks Victoria have joined forces to create one of the most informative and educational stands of the show.
Fun on the water
In the fast-moving world of marine electronics, GME has one of the entertainment highlights of the year with G.Dek, its new, Aussie-designed Multimedia Entertainment System for boats of every size and style. When teamed up with GME’s latest marine speakers, G.Dek combines DAB+ (Digital Audio Broadcasting) radio with inputs for an SD card reader, USB port, 3.5mm stereo jack and 30-pin connector for iPhone, iTouch and iPod. The slim head unit can be flush mounted without cutting into the dash panel, and the multi-media hub can be installed up to five metres away. With 4×45 watts audio output, video input and output, infra-red remote and sub-woofer pre-out, G.Dek sets a new benchmark in marine entertainment.
Rod on the run
Tacklebusters is back with another new product this year – the carbon fibre version of its TravelMaster Multi-Rod, which was the star of last year’s show in fibreglass form. Now with the option of lighter and stiffer carbon fibre construction, the Multi-Rod features metal ferrules and fittings and both versions are built tough to take the bumps and knocks of the serious traveller. Best of all, the whole thing packs into a robust travelling case measuring just 500mm x 100mm for easy portability.
One of the best loved activities for kids is Flathead Fred’s Fun Fishin’ Show, on every day of the show. Marching, cheering and loving every minute of it, the kids learn much more than fishing from Fred. They also learn Fred’s philosophy of good manners and good behaviour both when fishing, on the water and in everything else they do. Fred has heaps of prizes to give away and parents get as much fun out of it as the kids do. See the daily program board near the main Show entry door for Fred’s schedule.
Whittley Marine Group has its biggest-ever trailerable fishing boat to round out its Sea Legend range. The new SL28 comes in just under the 3500 kg towing limit for this big and handsome blue water fishing boat on its trailer, while also new is the latest SL24 HT, which is tipped to be one of Whittley’s top sellers with its standard hard-top, full-depth windscreen and family boating comforts combined with a serious sport fishing fit-out. Look for Whittley’s latest fishing and cruising models on the Marine Max and Whittley stands.
